The initial invention of the chair was to serve as a practical and simple means to sit on a more
comfortable surface and for sharing family meals around the table. As time passed the creation of more ornate chairs signified luxury and status.

Chairs today are significant in serving a  multitude of purposes as  well as their social attributes.  They are used for educational purposes in the classrooms,  used in the office for work related purposes, and those that were constructed with attached wheels to adhere to hard  surfaced floors.  Chairs that were created for the benefit of children as well as the essential construction of specialized chairs for the purpose of the medical profession. My personal favorite after a long day, is to relax on my bean bag chair.

The bean bag chair was the brain child of two Italian designers back in the 60’s. Its popularity exploded in the U.S. during the 70’s. Breaking the mold of its original rigid form,  you can’t help but think of the similarities  of the anti establishment sentiments and the movement of the 60’s and 70’s.  That generation believed in change and were activists fighting for equality, love and peace.  They managed to revolutionize and change the way we think and live today.

Truly a sign of our times!  I believe the Bean Bag chairs creation remains a reflection and homage to a generation that believed it could change the
world, and they did!
